I Stand With You, Always.

I don’t think there’s anyway to start a blog post of this nature. All I know is that I need to write about it, talk about it, draw attention to it in hopes that real change will come faster than the rate it’s going.

The first and only time I saw the footage of George Floyd dying facedown on the street, under the knee of a Minnesota police officer, my eyes filled with tears. I couldn’t – and still can not – understand how any human being would think that that was okay. How any human can fight another human, to the point of death is beyond me. It’s something I will never understand.

Never.

I will never understand why after so many years, the simple understanding that we are part of the same human race is lost on so many. That racism is something we are dealing with in 2020.

While the fight for equality among all people of colour is a long fight ahead. Today I want to address all my Black family members, friends, followers, community members, fellow bloggers and strangers:

I will never understand the pain that you carry on your heart everyday.
I will never understand what it feels like to be a Black person, and feel racism directed towards you on a daily basis.
I will never understand fearing for your life, every day.
I will never understand why it has taken far too long for change to come.
I will never understand why even now, there’s not enough being done.
I will never understand why despite how peaceful, or loud you are, you are never heard.
I will never understand.

but

I will hold you hand, stand with you, and fight for justice, equality and love.
I will not let myself and others around me make the same mistakes as before, no matter how big or small.
I will do better. I promise.
I will listen to you.
I will educate myself, and find resources for others.
I will fight for the future that you deserve, so that you can be safe and protected from all hate and harm.
I will stand with you always.

I believe with every ounce of my being that change is possible. I believe it, I know it, I can see it.

I love you. I stand with you, always.

I don’t normally post on the weekend but I needed to say something. I needed to write. I can’t just sit back and watch the news.

I encourage all of you who feel the same as I, to write about it, post about it, talk about it and don’t stop. Your words will not be lost in the masses, it is an important piece of the foundation of change that is being built.

& for anyone out there who doesn’t agree with me, who doesn’t see problem here. Unfollow me. There is no space for hate here, and I will not tolerate it.

As always I hope you are staying safe, and healthy. Until next time.

  1. Thank you for talking about this. I was so disturbed by that video that I still have not been able to fully watch it. You are absolutely right- we need to talk about this incident and police brutality/racism as much as possible. That’s the only way things are going to change. I just finished writing a post about this as well and I hope many more people will continue to speak up.

  2. So beautiful, I can’t find the words. All I can say is that we can and WILL make a difference for the better. We are ONE human race, we are family. Black lives MATTER. And I hate that people face injustices everyday because of race. I couldn’t watch the video, and I’m just a girl from England. It’s unbearable to think how George’s family must have felt knowing this happened to their LOVE. Who is innocent. That’s someone’s SON. He didn’t deserve this. Nobody does. We will make a difference and I am so grateful to you for sharing this post! Thank you ❤️

  3. This is a great post! As a mixed race girl, it’s heartbreaking to see the way the black community is treated in america. It’s utterly inhumane, but also really *really* confusing. It’s 2020, I’d love to think we were past such brutal racism. I hope this is the time that people collectively stand up and say no more, we’ve seen this far too many times xx
