My Morning Routine: How to Instantly Boost Your Mood!

I think there’s something so sacred about having a good routine.

Call me crazy, (I would have too if this was two years ago) but hear me out, I really think that a solid routine is something that can make or break your day.

Being in quarantine for nine weeks now I’ve learned one important thing about myself – it’s that I crave a routine! Getting up and going to work each morning, made me genuinely happy, I love my job, I love what I get to do for living. Losing that was losing a huge piece of me. So I figured there had to be someway that I could take that joy I get from my old morning routine and rework it, for quarantine.

So here’s what I do every single morning!

SET AN ALARM

I am very aware of my mindset, how my mood and emotions shift daily through this very weird time and I am also aware that I am in full control. My alarm goes off at 7:30am every weekday, and 8:30am on weekends! I make myself get up early, I love my quiet mornings and the only way I get as much as I get done in a day, is becasue I wake up early.

MEDITATION

The very first thing I do every morning is meditate. I use the app Insight Timer – it’s personally my favourite app for meditation that I’ve ever used, it has so much free content! Each morning I use my set timer in the app and just practice my breathing for three minutes, sometimes I visualize my day, and feel the excitement for the day in my body. (I’m aware that this sounds completely wack to someone who’s never meditated before but trust me, there’s some psychology and science behind this powerful meditation!)

BE THANKFUL

From there I open up another app on my phone called 5 Minute Journal, I do have the hard copy of this journal as well which I do use sometimes but I like having it in my phone to be able to look at throughout the day, if I need to take a look at what I’ve written! This journal starts my day off the best way possible, it forces me to count my blessings. Each morning I list out three blessings, three things I’m going to do to have a good day and my daily affirmation.

AFFIRM YOUR DREAMS

For anyone who has never written out, or said an affirmation out loud – let me break it down for you, real quick! This might be the most important thing that I do in my day, and I just want everyone to do this and reap the benefits.

An affirmation is the action or process of affirming something, or being affirmed.

Affirmations strengthen us by helping us believe in the potential of an action we desire to manifest. When we affirm our dreams out loud, we are instantly empowered with a sense of reassurance and drive that what we think will become reality.

Still confused? Do you believe the phrase – you are what you think? This entire idea stems from that. There is so much power in your thoughts.

I’ve made a small list of morning affirmations that you can try out, and if you need help learning to curate your own list of affirmation – please let me know in the comments and I’d be happy to help !

  • Today I am filled with energy, I bring joy everywhere I go.
  • My body is healthy, and I give myself the care and attention I deserve.
  • I listen to my intuition and trust my inner guide.
  • I am confident in my ability to (fill in the blank)
  • My drive and ambition allow me to achieve my goal.
  • I put my energy into things that matter to me.
  • I am at peace with myself as a person.
  • I give myself space to grow and learn.
  • My potential to succeed is infinite.

Remember, there’s no cap on how many affirmations you can have in a day. I usually write down three to five ! It’s such a powerful exercise so have fun with it, change it daily, write them on sticky notes and put them around your house for a daily reminder! Do what you feel serves you.

MAKE YOUR BED AND DANCE IT OUT

As soon as I’ve finished with my affirmations, I put some headphones in, and pick a song that I know will pump me up for the day and I make my bed. It is SO easy to just work from your bed all day, but I know for me the best thing I can do for myself is make my bed and work anywhere but. (I’m literally sitting on the floor right now, because honestly – I feel like I accomplish so much more form the floor. Do you! But make your bed)

The song you choose in the morning is so important! Today my song was She’s So High – Tal Bachman, if you know that song, it’s one of those sing-into-your-hairbrush and give-a-mini-concert-to-your-candles type of songs ! Those are the songs I want you to pick, songs that make you so happy you feel like you could burst. Why? Because that’s the energy we need to aim for every. single. day.

I’ve created a playlist on my Spotify called, The Mood Booster Playlist – feel free to follow it for inspiration or if you just want a fun pump up playlist to listen to!

From there, I get ready for the day, have breakfast and get to writing! This entire routine takes me maybe fifteen minutes MAX!!!

I really hope that you took something from this post, wether it be a song from my playlist or learned something new about affirmations.

I want to know what your pump up song is, what is one song that puts you in a good mood instantly?

I hope you are all staying safe and healthy. Until next time my friends!

  5. Great post Xandria! I absolutely agree, routines are amazing. I’ve really been utilizing them during the pandemic! I’ll decide beforehand what things needed to be accomplished in the mornings and evenings, then I incorporate those new habits into my daily routine. It gets much more done faster than if I just tried to remember to do those things, haha!
I’ve been listening to a lot of music recently. My favorite song right now is ‘Jackie Chan’! It’s so catchy lol โค

  7. You’re a brilliant writer Xandria! I love how in depth this post was and enjoyed hearing that you believe in the power of affirmations too. I wrote a few blog posts a while back solely on affirmations to bring an abundance of health, happiness and success. Affirmations are a brilliant way to reprogram the mind to think and see through a lense of gratitude.

  8. I don’t really listen to any one particular song to lift my spirits up. A good night’s sleep and sorted To-Do list gives me the much needed motivation to tackle the day ahead. Thank you for this post Xandria, I can see how well planned your morning routine is, it’s great to know that you follow this routine well ๐Ÿ™‚
