“The only person you should try and better, is the person you were yesterday” – Unknown
I’ve thought a lot about this lately.
The concept that we are all people, human beings taking up a hell of a lot of space on a planet that is floating aimlessly through space. I’ve been thinking a lot about how we are all the same ‘thing’, we’re all equals; despite every difference that seems to tear us apart. I’ve been thinking a lot about how we are all doomed to the same ending, how regardless of how nice our cars are, or how many countries we’ve been to, or how good our hair looks tomorrow at work, we will all turn back to dust.
Granted, some of you reading this might be thinking – ‘well that’s dark’ – yes, and no. I must admit, I probably spend more time than the average human thinking about this funny thing called life, and death. But I also do think that a lot of the happiness that I found this last year derives from those very thoughts. The simple thoughts that, life is short, we are guaranteed nothing, that regardless of what we do or how many times we change you will never find love unless you learn to love yourself, and find peace in that. & finally, that if maybe just maybe, we stood together, in our everyday lives, there would be so much less tearing us apart. We shouldn’t have to wait for a tragic event that ends in death to stand together, we shouldn’t have to wait for a concert or a sporting event to celebrate life with one another.
We’re all one race, we’re one species.
I came across this spoken word, and if we ever got to the point where we taught people “How to Be A Person” I think these are the exact rules we should follow.
